Electricity flows through a cable to a
central point (normally somewhere in your roof space), where it
is converted by a small device called an inverter
from Direct Current (DC) to Alternating Current (AC) – and then
used throughout your household in the same way as electricity
from mains supply to power all your appliances and lighting. A connection is made to the power grid, and this means any surplus power you may generate, for example when you are at work during the day, is fed into the electricity grid. You are credited with this contribution. When you are short of electricity it flows in the opposite direction. |

Terms you may need to know.. Inverter An inverter takes the DC (direct current) from the solar panel and converts it into AC (alternating current) which is what most household devices operate on. Blocking Diode A blocking diode is connected in the cable to limit the flow of power in one direction. This stops a battery, if it was connected from being discharged at night when there is no sunlight. Charge Controller Controls the charging of a battery, It disconnects the battery when it is fully charged. PV PV stands or photovoltaic. A PV array is an interconnected assemble of solar modules that function as a single unit. |
